Amazon Web Services Microsoft Workloads in AWS



You have a variety of options for using Microsoft software licenses on AWS Cloud.

You can either continue with your current licenses or purchase integrated licenses in your new AWS environment. By purchasing Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) or Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) whereby licenses are included, you will receive new, fully compatible Windows Server and SQL Server licenses from AWS.

Your existing licenses can be used on AWS with Amazon EC2 dedicated instances, Amazon EC2 dedicated instances or EC2 instances with default tenancy using Microsoft License Mobility through Software Assurance (SA). Whether you want to purchase new Microsoft licenses or use existing ones, rest assured that AWS is running your Microsoft software safely and securely.

Arbeidstilsynet Customer case

After scoping and cost assessment, Arbeidstilsynet realized that AWS would be their chosen platform for migration to cloud. Arbeidstilsynet took on a fail fast approach with AWS and started to test basic services including Windows EC2, RDS for SQL Server and Elastic Beanstalk. This became the grounds for migration of key Microsoft technology based applications. The first applications migrated were in-house built applications that support labor inspection processes.

BI Norwegian Business School Customer case

Crayon has created a fully managed solution using AppStream 2.0 to meet the complex demands of student application distribution. Based on Windows Machine image and scaling fleets, BI Norwegian Business School can provide their students with any application that runs on Windows. Crayon Campus is a fully managed solution that leverages AppStream 2.0 to provide Windows based applications to any student on any device, using any web browser. Crayon implements, manages and operates the environment for BI. The solution integrates directly with the BI ́s existing Microsoft AD. The initial project consisted of an Analytics course of 120 students.

Sinus Data AS Customer case

With direct help from a Senior AWS Solution Architect, Sinus was able to get started on the migration right after the decision was made. All core application servers were candidates for migration. The on-premises environment consisted of 100% Windows and Windows EC2 was a natural choice for application servers. For the Database tier, SQL Server on EC2 was chosen to maintain access at OS level. Continuity of data and application dependencies were mapped before migration began.
