Women In Technology: Crayon announces new leadership program
(OSLO, Norway) -- Crayon Group Holding ASA (OSE: CRAYON), a global IT advisory firm, announced today it has established an internal leadership program that focuses on increasing the company’s gender diversity.
“Gender equality is a key issue in the global workplace that needs to be addressed,” said Crayon co-CEO Rune Syversen. “It’s a well-known fact that having a more diverse workforce improves efficiency and profitability, but most important: It’s the right thing to do.”
Syversen has long been a champion of gender equality and serves on the board of Europe’s largest gender diversity conference SHE. He is also speaking on a women in technology panel today at Arendalsuka, a week-long conference of the public and private sector and politicians discussing today’s key issues.
The global technology industry is about 20% to 25% women, with the majority of women not in leadership positions. At Crayon, 31% of the company are women and 21% of the managers are women.
“We’re proud of our numbers but being ahead of the industry standard isn’t good enough,” said Bente Liberg, Crayon’s COO. “We specialize in finding innovative ways to help our clients solve complex problems. We’re taking that innovative approach and applying it to improving our gender diversity.”
The pilot program consists of about 15 women from various markets including the US, UK, Norway, Malaysia, Germany and Singapore. The participants will have regular contact with Crayon leadership, develop mentoring relationships and create a customized leadership plan to help them achieve their goals.
Crayon already has programs in different countries that focus on supporting women in the workplace, but this program is the company’s first global approach to improving gender equality.
“This leadership program will last for a year, and it will offer a variety of workshops, theory and practical work,“ Liberg said. “We will coach these women to grow into our great leaders of tomorrow.“
